This video was recorded by Luis Flores in Oaxaca, Mexico. Tenec, also called Huastec, Huasteco, and Teenek, is a Mayan language spoken by as many as 200,000 people, primarily in the Mexican states of San Luis Potosí, Tamaulipas and Veracuz. It is the only extant language of the Huastecan branch of the Mayan linguistic family since the last speakers of the closely-related Chicomuceltec language passed away in the 1980s.
