Juan Carlos speaking Santiagueño Quichua and Spanish

Juan Carlos speaks Santiagueño Quichua, one of the Southern Quechuan languages, and Spanish, one of the Romance languages alongside Portuguese, Catalan, and French. Also called Santiago del Estero Quichua, this dialect is spoken in Argentina. This video was recorded by José Antonio Iglesias in Tandil, Argentina. Santiagueño Quichua, also known as Santiago del Estero Quichua, is a variety of Southern Quechua spoken by at least 60,000 people in Argentina’s Santiago del Estero province. Migration has spread the language to some parts of northeastern Argentina and the capital city Buenos Aires. It is the seventh most widely spoken language in Argentina and the country's third most widely-spoken Indigenous language. Historically marginalized by the Argentinian government, Santiagueño Quichua remains excluded from public schools and institutions.
