This video was recorded by Kristen Tcherneshoff in Changsha, Hunan province, China. Gan Chinese is spoken natively by 22 million people, primarily in the Jiangxi province. There are significant numbers of speakers in the surrounding Hunan, Hubei, Anhui, and Fujian provinces. With nine dialectal subgroups, Gan Chinese is a Sinitic language, considered closest to Hakka in terms of phonetics.
