Peter Kojo Amoabil is an experienced educator and advocate for language and literacy development. With a strong academic foundation in Educational Administration and Management, Perter has dedicated over 14 years to fostering equitable and inclusive education. Passionate about preserving cultural heritage, he has been at the forefront of initiatives promoting literacy in native languages. Recognizing the power of language as a tool for identity and empowerment, he has collaborated with communities, educators, and policymakers to develop programs that nurture linguistic diversity while enhancing educational outcomes.

In 2019, Peter launched Rural Literacy Solutions, a groundbreaking project aimed at revitalizing Dagbani. The program has successfully engaged learners of all ages, equipping them with the tools to read, write, and communicate in their native tongues. Driven by a vision of a future where every child has the opportunity to thrive in their cultural and linguistic identity, Peter remains committed to advancing literacy and preserving Indigenous knowledge.

During his fellowship year, Peter is translating 30 children's storybooks into Dagbani on the African Storybook website, an open-access digital platform that provides free reading materials in African languages. By increasing the availability of books in Dagbani, this helps bridge the literacy gap for children in Northern Ghana, supporting early education and language development in a region where access to native-language resources is limited.

Growing up in Northern Ghana, Peter witnessed firsthand the challenges students face due to a lack of reading materials in their native language. As an educator, he has dedicated his career to addressing this gap by ensuring that children have access to books in Dagbani. Over the next year, in addition to translating 30 stories, Peter and his team will host monthly reading sessions to engage young learners and promote literacy in their mother tongue.
